This study shed light on the status of slaves and concubines in Jerusalem during the Ottoman reign.

The study consisted of a number of themes, namely: their roots and origins, their bringing , their colors and description, defects and diseases, markets, names and indications, sale and purchase, names, fees and taxes, inheritance and giving them properties, granting, mortgage, renting and freeing, professions and activities, the social classes they worked for, inclusion and affecting and being influenced by the Jerusalem community.

All of that was based on historical literature and the descriptions of their conditions (the slaves and concubines in general), and based on the documents and historical evidence taken from Jerusalem Shar'ia court during the Ottoman reign.

Such evidence are a basic and important resources as they contain unique and original information and provide us with a clearer picture about the status of slaves and concubines in Jerusalem community during the Ottoman reign.

The study concluded with a number of results, most importantly: slave and concubines in the Ottoman Jerusalem formed a social class but not a group or an aspect.

The proof thereof is the number of arguments and issues indicated in the records, the conditions surrounding their arrival, the plenty of regions they came from in order to stay in Jerusalem due to its religious position and for a military purposes relating with the Ottoman conquests as well as the professions they practiced in Jerusalem and their original homelands on which they lived in Jerusalem.

In addition, the study showed the method they ended up at the end of the Ottoman reign, inclusion in the Jerusalem community as they represented a part thereof.
