The Egyptian researcher Ghaydan Al-Sayyed Ali presents an article entitled “Otherness in Western Thought” where he shows that there is an ongoing profound debate on otherness in modern Western culture, and it seems that there is a general rift in European and Western consciousness between the logic of authority and the critical movements which have accompanied the rise of the Imperialist wave.
In spite of this, Western consciousness has witnessed an inclination toward a focus on the “civilized self” at the expense of sacrifice for the sake of others.
This article is a critical attempt to clarify a set of problematic issues on the concept of otherness as it appears in the Western modernism.
الملخص FRE
Le chercheur égyptien Ghidhan SAYYED ALI écrit un article intitulé: "l'Altruisme dans la réflexion occidentale".
Il montre que le problème de l'altruisme est sujet d'une polémique profonde qui continue toujours dans la culture occidentale moderne.Il y a, semble-t-il, schizophrénie dans la conscience européenne et occidentale en général, entre la logique du pouvoir et les courants critiques qui ont accompagné la montée de la vague coloniale.
Malgré cela, la conscience occidentale connait une tendance vers la centralisation autour du Moi civilisationnel aux dépens du sacrifice réel pour l'autrui.
On trouve dans cet article un essai critique pour éclairer les problématiques de la notion d'altruisme tel qu'il est apparu dans l'expérience de la modernité occidentale.
