الملخص EN

The aim of this study is to examine the extent to which the professional rules for structuring subject headings descriptors have been observed in preparing bibliographic records of the databases of the Arabic Union Catalogue as well as the Ahlia university library catalogue.

Consequently a comparison between the two identical databases has been made in order to measure the extent of compatibility between the two databases.

Several research methods have been used including historical, survey and content analysis.

Several results have been obtained, the most important results are: 1.The possibility of examining the extent to which the preparation of subject heading descriptors in a library catalogue comply with the professional standard cataloging rules.

The percentage of the deviation of the Arabic Union Catalogue reached (%19,4) of the sample, while its counter part of the Ahlia reached (%100), which means total failure to comply with the standard professional rules.

The study recommends: 1.

The preparation of subject headings descriptors should comply with the professional standard rules, which with secure precise recall information.
