This research seeks to shed light on the issue of "commitment" in modern Arabic poetry, as one of the great issues that occupied modern critical thought; it is one of the most prominent features of the true literature related to the living reality, as well as a technique of responding to the "Art for art's sake" cause which seeks to rid literature of teleology and utilitarianism.

This research examines the works of the Iraqi poet Abdul Wahab Al-Bayati as a model for studying this cause, as it is one of the most important pillars of the Realistic school.

His poems were rife with the spirit of revolution, rebellion and rejection, going beyond the personal suffering to express the collective ego, and the humanitarian tragedy with its various manifestations
