The accelerated growth of cities on the a count of countryside in developing countries led to the depletion of resources and environment.

The study problem came out from that growth of cites is always on the account of country side.

This paper aimed to shed the light on Sirte region and urban expansion which has occurred in the last decades and the change in the rural-urban relationship between main growth pole in the region and its rural areas as well as to try to recognize its background and effects, being considered a model for Libyan urbanization process.The paper adopted the qualitative-analytical approach in addition it also used a quantitative-statistical method coupled with field study .The paper has drawn several results ;among them that there is a real and clear primacy of the city of sirte on the urban and rural areas surrounding it with different times.

And that political and economic factors have played a major role in migration from rural to urban areas in the region of Sirte.

Finally, the paper gives several recommended that there is a need to draw attention to the importance of controlling and management of urban growth in urban regions in order to achieve balanced development between urban and rural areas.
