الملخص EN

From the above mentioned, we have come to know the most important features of the Gulf Emirates’ political structure which are represented in the reality of the geographic, social and political unity of this region.

Moreover, the tribal political organization is clear and the tribal practice controls and mechanisms are deep-rooted and effective in steering those practices to serve the public interest in this community.

Moreover, the study clarifies the role of the British presence in affecting that structure through the colonial pacts which have given Britain the opportunity for the gradual interference in the affairs of the region.

The said interference includes determining the Emirates’ rules’ ties with the foreign countries, their inter relations, the internal government affairs and managing the relationship between the ruler and the subjects in each Emirate.

However, the said interference has not been of the same intensity, and it has not taken place at the same time in all Emirates.

It also remained subject to the developments of the internal affairs in each Emirate, to Britain’s understanding of such developments whether they were of positive or negative effect on the British interests.

The study has also explained the extent of the impact of the British presence in frustrating the effect of the mechanisms that controlled the tribal political practices.

It became clear as well in reducing the impact of the tribal loyalty on the ruler’s influence, limiting the effect of the tribal political opposition and limiting the natural role of the elites.

Therefore, the impact of the British presence had a negative effect on the balances of power in the region and made them proceed according to the British wishes.

Furthermore, it played a role in the institutions building process.

The British withdrawal had an important impact on the political developments at the regional level aiming at maintaining the existing situation and determining the most important features of the political structure of these Emirates following the British departure and the state establishment.

However, despite the intensity of that interference, it failed to totally cancel the effect of the tribal political culture in driving the political practices at the regional level even after establishing the state and the modern political institutions.
