The Yemeni-American relations through Kingdom of Saudi Arabia had witnessed an important development in their level of convergence, especially after the clashes on the borders between the two sides in 1979, which soon turned into a full confrontation.

As a result, the United States, under urgency of the Saudi government, hastened to allocate military supplies for Sana'a as exceptional emergency aids.

But the situation changed completely after the war ended where a sudden and fast convergence had happened between the two sides which relived negotiations about unity treaty project 1972.

The results of convergence had been reflected on the Yemeni Saudi American relations.

The Saudi government refused to continue delivering the rest of the American weapons to the Yemeni army; this led to an obvious convergence between the Soviet Union and the Yemeni Republic who signed the Soviet weapons contract by the end of 1979.
