الملخص الإنجليزي

Rafiq Alschami, Syrian novelist, was born in Damascus, Syria in 1946.

In 1971, he moved to Germany and settled there since that time.

He wrote his masterpiece, Hand full of Stars in 1987 in German language and it has been translating to different languages including English and Arabic.

Hand full of Stars represents the suffering and agony of people in the ancient suburbs of Damascus.

It records all the heard and seen events about the suffering of people in detention centres and the injustice treatments of Syrian government by false claims in fighting antimodernisation groups and continual preparation for the coming war.

Accordingly, he protagonist of the novel, son of baker, records what happened there in the shape of his age, dreams and ambitions.

Therefore, the novel discloses the pitfalls and cons of military cops in bringing the country back to reign of agony and tyranny.

More specifically, this preface tries to address answers for questions arising in the mind of the reader.

For whom the novel is written? Arab reader who experiences the reality and could not emancipate from that or western reader who want to dispel all the secrets of the east through the novel.

To what extent, the writer succeeds in presenting contradictions of Arabian society, where the agony and suppressive security forces and love, passion and simplicity go together.

Finally, the writer keeps the novel never-ending like nothing has happened.
