Globalization as a process of liberalization and deepening of liberalization led to the emergence of competitiveness as a phenomenon occupying a large part of the debate that is taking place within international organizations as well as national ones.

So competitiveness has become the concern of all the countries involved in the global economy Concerning developed countries, maintaining their domination over the whole process constitutes an essential goal in itself and within this domination, competiveness occurs at the top of the summit.

As for developing countries, the improvement of their position within the hierarchy of the global economy remains a goal to achieve.

Within the framework presented above, we tried to study the position of the set of North African countries through the so called efficiency of industrial competitive performance and the efficiency of trade performance at the level of each country.

This analysis led to the need to question UNIDO classification of emerging countries and to put forward the need to improve it
