This paper attempts to present the reality of Milk Branch in Algeria and its most important achieved results during the period (1992- 2014), First by addressing the contradiction between the upstream and downstream, where the upstream represents the most vulnerable link face of the continuous increase in the volume of consumption (downstream), as a result of the policy adopted by state after the sixties which encouraged the consumption of milk as a cheap source rich in animal protein, the previous contradiction in the branch led to an external dependency, especially for dried milk powder, which made the branch sensitive to the volatility of foreign markets.

This situation prompted the Algerian state to encourage the production of milk locally in order to get out of the dependency and achieve food security.

On another hand, the continuous growth of upstream of Milk Branch attracts foreign investments Which formed with some major Algerian enterprises an oligopoly, and became the nerve of this branch.
