Beautification and adornment are desirable in Islamic Sharia, and the texts are clear regarding permissible and objectionable cosmetic surgery.

However, the continuous development of cosmetic surgery has brought about novel things that people did not know in the past.

And due to the instinctive nature of human drives, many people have been enticed to the world of cosmetics to satisfy their desires without careful examination of the matter.

But since Islamic Sharia is valid for every time and place, it is possible to look into its texts and find provisions that can be used to attune the new discoveries in the world of cosmetics to Islamic law.

As we look at the world of cosmetics, we find that most of those who are concerned with it are women, though men have started to become competitors in the last few years.

A woman may resort to cosmetic surgery willingly or upon the request by her husband if she is married.

This research explains cosmetic surgery, introduces its various types and specifies its legal status in Sharia, by explaining whether or not the husband’s permission can change the legal status of cosmetic surgery from being lawful to being unlawful or vice versa.
