Background and Objective: A review of post-operative complications for pediatric dental care under general anesthesia show great variations.

Until now, no morbidity data has been available to estimate the safety of pediatric patients under GA for dental rehabilitation in Syria.

The purposes of this study were to (1) Investigate post-operative complications associated with dental care under GA and (2) Correlate patient’s age and post operative complications.

Materials & Methods: The study sample included 36 healthy children attending general anestesia for dental treatment because of severe caries, and showed high dental fear and or/ behavioral management problems.

The children were treated at maxillio-facial hospital at the Faculty of dentistry, Damascus University, in the hospital setting.

Then in the recovery room they were observed for complications.

Data were collected from every patient on three occasions, by structured interview either face to face (immediately post operation) at the operating room , and post-operatively after discharge via phone calls .in the first and after 2 days.

Results: Results showed that 55.3% of the children had one or more complaints in the first day in contrast to 36% after one day and only 13.2% after 2 days.

Pain, bleeding, drowsiness and inability to eat were the most common complaints.

Age showed a signifiant relationship with post-operative complicohians which occur more in early childhood.

Conclusion: Post- complicohians were common in the first day post-operatively.

But after one postoperative day, most of the children regained their physical activity.

By the third day, a significant reduction or disappearance of complaints were reported.

The reported safety of the children operated under GA should encourage GA procedures use for recommended children
