الملخص EN

This study tackled with ( The Voluntary And Involuntary In The Surrealistic Painting) as a paradox related to surrealism that was concerned about the involuntary action, therefore, illustrating the voluntary action and decoding this paradox is one the tasks of this study.

The study consists of four chapters, first one concerned about the problem of the research, need of the research, goal and importance of the research, the research aimed to knowing the voluntary and involuntary in surrealistic painting.

Then the limits of the research and specifying the important terms of it.

The second chapter dealt with the theoretical frame which included the first section: (approaches of surrealism), second section was about (cognitive data of surrealistic art), theoretical frame ended with indications, third chapter dealt with procedures of research which are the population and sample (76) painting of research that took five samples then tool of research and analyzing that sample.

The study finalized with the fourth chapter that included conclusions, recommendations and suggestion of the research.

Most distinct results were: levels of practicing the will differentiated up to the style of the artist, so there was no definitive description for the style and performance in practicing the will could be applied by surrealism in spite of the cognitive reference of the non-sense that most arts worked on it which is clear in the variety of research sample.

Conclusions: in voluntary (the unconscious) considered as the cognitive need that every surrealistic artist seeks for, and the performance and its type followed that cognitive effort, therefore, the surrealists aimed to vanish (destroy) voluntary and conscious which were occupied by in voluntary and the unconscious .
