An increasingly important subject of research in Saudi Arabia is eco-tourism as political constraints have hindered this type of tourism in neighbouring Arab countries, which was once a fertile ground only a few years ago.

The misconception that there is a lack of suitable sites in Saudi Arabia for eco-tourism has played an important role in the delay of this type of tourism, which is generally associated with moderate climatic environments and non-desert regions.

However, the desert environments today in Tunisia, for example, have generated substantial eco-tourism opportunities and it goes without saying that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is perhaps the richest in this type of landscape.

The Hada area is one of the many scattered areas in the south-west of the kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and is one of the most famous summer resort areas in the western region of the kingdom, adjacent to three major cities, namely, Makkah, Jeddah and Taif.

This indicates how important it is that this area enjoys climatic conditions that are different from the surrounding urban areas, making it a popular destination for domestic tourists.

There is no doubt that the geological and topographic conditions that characterise the region play a most prominent role in eco-tourism as the moderate climatic conditions make the destination suitable for tourists in the three neighbouring cities.

There is no doubt as to where the problem lies in the existing urban sprawl into forests and agricultural land and timber cutting and the process of transforming the natural rural environment into urban environments to offer tourist services, all of which have had a negative impact on the environment.

This research aims to generate specific digital cadastral results to show the relationship between the natural characteristics of the region and land use and the extent of the impact on the natural surrounding environment The research methodology includes collecting data on the geological and topographic characteristics of the region using maps and digital land use databases, satellite images, and field surveys using a Digital Elevation Model.

This data is then used to show the relationship between geological and topographic characteristics and land uses.

The results show that geological and topographic conditions may have played an important role in land use for the purposes of tourism and housing, among others, and have played an advantageous and disadvantageous role from different perspectives.
