Human rights are a universal concept, and many countries have already expressed it by issuing several related documents.

Many countries have also declared the acceptance and commitment to the provisions of these documents.

The UAE is one of the first countries that recognized the importance of these rights ever since it came into being and paid particular attention to this concept to the point that its record in protecting the human rights is full of national achievements and it shows a strong commitment and a positive interaction with the international practices in this respect.

The UAE has made great achievements in the field of human rights at the national and international levels.

However, the UAE did not join the International Conventions of Human Rights, notably the covenants of 1966, but has issued a number of national legislations that confirmed its commitment to promoting and respecting human rights and freedoms on its territory and these legislations are in the line with the principles established by these covenants.

Human rights protection is underpinned by the constitution which includes a chapter on the protection of public rights and freedoms.

In addition, the UAE national laws protect these rights as they have been guaranteed in the International Covenants of Human Rights of 1966.
