The aim of this paper is to shed light on the status of locally designed and manufactured children's playgrounds equipment in Sudan by identifying its components and it's positive and negative effects on children from the perspective of the industrial designer.

the study population was limited to field playgrounds in Khartoum state, where most of the problems of these games were identified according to the quality of design and safety of use, through an applied descriptive approach.

different study tools were used such as field visits, interviews and data collection from various available sources.

findings were expected to identify opportunities for the intervention of the industrial designer to improve the design and safety of children's playground equipment.

the research study results proved that most locally playground equipment in Khartoum state lack good design standards in terms of manufacturing methods, anthropometric measurements and child safety requirements.

in terms of application, a study was conducted for locally manufactured chutes, where most of the problems observed.

a number of design suggestions have been proposed to address problems of materials, manufacturing methods and anthropometric measurements while providing the greatest safety and protection for children in the specified age group.

accordingly, a number of different size models were developed to be made out of rotational molded plastic which has become locally affordable.

the basic recommendation of the study stresses the need to activate the laws that prevent non-specialists from designing and manufacturing children's playground equipment and obligate those authorized by good design standards and specifications issued by the Sudan organization of standardization and specifications.
