This study aimed to discover the relationship between coping strategies and depression at university students.

The sample consisted of (250) male students at King Khalid University.

They responded to the cope scale (Carver et al.,1989) and Beck Depression Inventory II.

The research showed the following results: 1-The prevalence of simple depression was 52.8%, followed by the moderate depression (35.6%), severe depression (2.8%) and nondepression (8.8%).

2-There are significant differences in the Active Coping Strategy, planning strategy, and in the strategy of seeking social support for good reasons according to the level of depression, towards the low levels of depression.

3-There are significant differences in the strategy of seeking social support for emotional reasons according to the level of depression towards severe depression.

4-There is a negative correlation between active coping strategy and depression, and a negative correlation between planning and depression.

And there is a positive correlation between the strategy of seeking social support for emotional reasons and depression.

We discussed these results and concluded that the students who use less effective strategies to cope with stress have higher level of depression
