The aim of this study is to know the histological effects of topical application of honey on hamster full thickness skin open wounds in comparison with iodine solution 2 %.

Experiment animals were divided into three groups each one consist of ten hamsters.

Groups were designed as follows, group one was treated their wounds by natural honey, group two were treated their wounds by iodine solution 2 %.

The last group was left as a control.

Under general anesthesia, one 1X1 cm2 full skin thickness was surgically removed from hamster's backs near the backbone.

All experimental materials were applied on created wounds once a day.

Wounds then were covered with sterile gauze, bonded up with another sterile gauze, then cover with adhesive tape.

Four biopsies were taken from wounds to evaluate the histological changes.

The results showed that honey stimulates the formation of granulation tissue, activation of fibroblast, condensation of collagen fibers and fast relief of edema in comparison with iodine solution.

Wound healing was better with honey dressings as compared to iodine dressings.

As a result of the above we recommend more research on human to confirm the role of honey and its effectiveness in the treatment of wounds.
