The social fear is a natural phenomenon that the child experiences when confronting strangers for the first time in social events.
It is necessary and important to make the child more sensitive, social and accurate in discovering errors, but it will be abnormal if the social fear becomes a characteristic of child's personality.
Fear is a problem for individual in his family relations, his peer relations and his psychological and social adaptation.
The current study aims to identify: 1.
The social fear of children enrolled in kindergartens.
2.
The significance of differences in social fear among children enrolled in kindergartens according to the gender variable (male – female).
3.
The social fear of children who are not enrolled in kindergartens.
4.
The significance of differences in social fear among children who are not enrolled in kindergartens according to the gender variable (male – female(.
5.
The significance of differences in social fear among children enrolled and not enrolled in kindergartens.
The study included 100 male and female of children enrolled and not enrolled in kindergartens in Baghdad governorate for the academic year 2016/2017 In order to achieve the goal of the research, the two researchers built a scale of social fear which included (40) items (divided into two fields), the psychometric characteristics of the scale were extracted, the face validity the construct validity was conducted by finding a relation between the item and the whole score as well as the discriminatory power of the item.
The reliability is estimated in two ways: the method of test-retest reliability and the Alpha-Cronbach method.
After applying the scale and using the T-test for one sample and two independent samples, the researcher reached the following results: 1-There were statistically significant differences between the mean scores of enrolled children and the mean score of the scale and the difference in favor of the mean scores of enrolled children which means that the children enrolled in kindergartens have social fear.
2-There were statistically significant differences between the mean scores of male children and female children who are enrolled in kindergartens on the scale of social fear and the difference in favor of the mean scores of female children.
3-There were statistically significant differences between the mean scores of unenrolled children and the mean score of the scale and the difference in favor of the mean scores of enrolled children which means that the children who are not enrolled in kindergartens have social fear.
4-There were statistically significant differences between the mean scores of male children and female children who are not enrolled in kindergartens on the scale of social fear and the difference in favor of the mean scores of female children.
5-There were no statistically significant differences between the mean scores of the children enrolled and those who are not enrolled in kindergartens.
