The objective of this research is to study the effect of changing the reinforcement materials type by fibers on mechanical properties, for composite material consists of unsaturated polyester resin reinforced by biaxial woven roving glass and jute fibers (0°-90°).

This included impact strength, tensile strength, bending and hardness.

Where the Mechanical properties were extracted for unsaturated polyester resin before reinforcement by fibers, then we reinforced the resin by same weight percentage of glass and jute fibers and studied the effect that on the above mechanical properties as illustrated in the diagrams.

Results of this experimental research indicate that the mechanical properties of the polyester resin (tensile strength, impact strength, and hardness) have been improved by (29 %, 288 %, and 18 %) respectively, when using jute fibers as reinforcing phase with the polyester resin.

But this increase in tensile strength, impact strength, and hardness was (189 %, 318 %, and 39 %) respectively, when using glass fibers as a reinforcing phase.

The results clearly showed that the jute reinforced polyester have much better properties than the resin alone; but the properties are inferior to those of glass reinforced polyester.
