This study aims at discussing the relation of the female as a self with the ‘other’ sex in a place that is historically, religiously, culturally and geographically distant.

The writer is a female who attempts to explore these differences throughout her novel.

Athir AbdAllah Enamshi addresses the problem of identity dislocation that the young Arabs suffer from while they are abroad.

For that, she chose an example of two young Saudi Arabian sent in a scholarship to study in Canada, presented in ‘Abdel Aziz’ and ‘Jumana’, in addition to other secondary characters that act together to produce a fluctuating romantic story away from hometown and relatives.

The protagonists were trying to co-exist with the host country that imposes new values and norms, which highly contradict the prerequisites of the original identity of their home country.

The author tried to cover that in two novels, with two different points of view.

The first was narrated from the perspective of an Arab woman while the second told by the Arab man.

Both novels present a field battle for social norms challenging contradictions
