Arabic phonemes, which, in the past, used to be uttered according to tact, as it was the case with al-Khalil ibn Ahmad al-Farahidi, created a lot of controversy.

In the modern age, however, this controversy has been increased with the appearance of modern automatic machines.

The problem of describing the sound of 'Ayn' as fricative or semi-fricative is central to this research.

The paper analytically examines the viewpoints of scholars and scientists on the place, manner, and way of pronouncing it.

The findings of the research emphasize the viewpoint that the sound of 'ayn' is fricative (lax), but its friction is so particular that after the friction against the throat, the air is obstructed then is slowly released.
