The City of Oran through the Writings of Geographers, Travellers and Historians The city of Oran, located on the Mediterranean coast in the north-west of Algeria, was founded by the Andalusian sailors with the help of two neighbouring tribes of the city, Nafza and Beni Maskan, in the beginning of the 10th century AD.

It witnessed a significant development and prosperity as other cities of Algeria on the coast during the intermediate and modern era and formed one of the most important ports of the central Maghreb, especially during the Almouhdi era and then the Zayani.

In a short period after its establishment, Oran has become an important city which has received the attention and admiration of many travellers, geographers and historians, who have given us texts highlighting various aspects relating to Oran, whether historical, social, geographical or architectural, which are indispensable for each researcher in archaeology.
