The concept of value, despite the strenuous efforts that have been made in rooting it, is still unclear and interwoven for many .Yet, it is increasingly present in our educational ,cultural , social ,and religious discourses .therefore ,it is worthy of study and research eventhough it is thorny.

This paper came in order to introduce this concept, which is surrounded by a lot of ambiguity and complexity as it is located in a common ground between several sciences such as sociology ,psychology, philosophy and religion .It also tries to remove confusion through psychological –social comparison, and it seeks to identify the conventional connotations of the concept and its meanings used by people through theoretical acquisition in philosophy, psychology ,sociology and from the Islamic perspective concluding with the concept’s characteristics, components,functions,classification and sources .
