The study aimed to identify the role of strategic planning for private universities in achieving competitive advantage, and its relationship to community development.

The study instrument consisted of two areas of strategic planning and competitive advantage, strategic planning and community development were adopted.

The study sample consisted of (100) leaders from the academic and administrative university leaders who were working in the Jordanian public / private universities (presidents of private universities, deans, and administrators) in the academic year (2015/2016).

The main results of the study were that: the role of strategic planning in the private universities in achieving the competitive advantage and Community Development, was average level; and very close to the high level, there were no statistically significant differences in the study sample on the Strategic Planning estimates of private universities to achieve a competitive advantage and its relationship to the development of society due to due to years of service.

While there were significant differences in the study sample on the strategic planning in private universities to achieve competitive advantage and its relationship to community development attributed to the variable position in favor of college dean’s estimates differences.
