The inability of explanatory theories (Realism and Liberalism in particular) to developing an integrated theoretical approach to the various phenomenon of international relations (Security concept in particular), led to the emergence of new theories and approaches called “Formative-Reflective” given to their attempt to surround all theoretical elements and variables in order to provide an integrated perspective that sets the basis for the construction of a general theory in international relations; therefore, the formative theories - as a set of alternative perceptions in world politics- adopt different epistemological positions and other ontological-methodological choices than those which characterized the explanatory theories
