Background and Objective: Genital warts are an STD which has considerable therapeutic, social and psychological problems.

The ideal therapy should be effective and non-traumatic.

The aim of this study was to determine the efficacy and tolerance of 5% potassium hydroxide solution versus liquid nitrogen in the treatment of genital warts in men (males over 18 years).

Materials and Methods: The study includes 84 patients (males over 18 years), with diagnosed genital warts, and treated either by liquid nitrogen which was applied by the physician to all patients, or 5% potassium hydroxide solution which was applied by the patients themselves after they were instructed to use the medication.

All patients read and signed an informed consent form, during the period between 1st Jan-2015 and=31 Dec-2015, in the STD Clinic Dermatology Hospital a Damascus University.

Results: The study included 42 patients (males over 18 years), treated topically using liquid nitrogen, the average time until healing was 7.5 therapy sessions.

42 patients were treated topically with 5% potassium hydroxide solution, the average time until healing was 6 therapy sessions.

Conclusions: Both ways of treatment are considered an effective therapeutic method in the treatment of genital warts in men, and that the topical 5% potassium hydroxide solution is perceived as better then the topical treatment by liquid nitrogen regarding safety, number of therapy sessions required to achieve healing, and possibility of applying it by the patient himself
