The novel "Shock" by Algerian novelist Mohamed Molshoul, known as Yasmina Khadra, of contemporary novels, introduced the relationship of the self to the other, as one of the themes of narrative experimentation, where the self was represented by the Palestinian Arab identity, the other by the Israeli Jew.

This study analyzed this often conflictual relationship, which, according to the novel, was caused by the stereotypical image of self, the other, and by the absence of reason that was at the root of the catastrophic consequences of contemporary masculinity.
