This study reports on the major concepts recruited by pragmatics such as speech acts of expressive and directive, intent, context, argumentation, implicit meaning, pre-assumption and presupposition.

Within this study, much focus is assigned to expressive speech act which among others, represents the basic premise for pragmatic analysis.

The goal of this study is twofold: it aims first to acquaint lay readers with the use of the theoretical aspects in the practical analysis of discourse, and second to help them learn strategies of pragmatic analysis of texts.

To this end, the present study does not only confine itself to the description of the theoretical concepts, but endeavors to provide relevant illustrative examples of practice.
