The purpose of this study is to highlight the role of social responsibility in achieving the competitive advantage of the banks operating in the city of El Oued.

In order to verify this, a questionnaire of forty-seven paragraphs was used to gather preliminary information from the study sample which includes thirty staff members: managers, heads of departments and employees.

The data were collected, analyzed and tested using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS v.21).

In addition, many statistical methods are used, including simple linear regression, to achieve the study objectives.

After data analysis and testing the hypotheses, we reached the most important conclusion that the banks operating in the city of El Oued adopt the social responsibility in its four dimensions (towards workers, society, environment and customers), and that has an impact on the achievement of competitive advantage, except the social responsibility towards customers that has no statistical significance
