This research is descriptive research, it also uses the survey paper which allows to survey the performance of the communication means and the communication message together and in accordance with the research requirements.

The paper also uses the questionnaire as a basic research tool to study the public on the field and to poll its views on the subject of students' reliance on the news media to obtain news on the Iraqi situation.

The aim of the research is to identify the students' reliance on the news media as a source of news and to identify the topics that the students are looking for by following them to the news channel.

The study found many conclusions, the most important of which is that most university students follow the news channel in the satellite news channels.

The preferred time periods for follow-up of the news media are the evening period for the other periods preferred by the students because it is considered the peak period, in addition the main reason for the following up is to Know the breaking news and situations in the region that the public is looking for.
