There are sources other than the traditional historical sources that we have to study and analyze to depict the nature of the reality of communities’ life.

Among these sources are books of Fatwas.

This study examines and sheds light on the significance of these non-historical sources, taking the Fatwas of Sheikh Ismail Mohamed Al-Habani as a model.

That is because they are the first and oldest Hadhrami Fatwas found.

This study starts - perhaps it is the first study conducted at the level of Hadhramout and Yemen - with an introduction that shows the meanings of Fatwas, their synonyms and terminology in the Islamic heritage.

Then, the study explains their importance, as it went through at all Hadhrami Fatwas until the tenth Hijri century (the sixteenth Gregorian century).

After that, the biography of Sheikh Al-Habani and his scholarly family were introduced in order to proceed thereafter to talk about his Fatwas, methodology, sources, and resources.

Furthermore, the study touched on the historical significance of the Fatwas with examples that support that.

At the end, there is the conclusion and the summary of the study.
