This study aims at identifying the motives behind using Social Networks by Ibb University students, the positive and negative effects of such use, and controls of using these networks.

The study adopts the survey descriptive approach.

The instrument is a questionnaire, comprising two axes.

The first involves five fields, representing the motives behind using Social Networks.

The motives are (cognitive, social, political, religious and promotional).

The second contains the positive and negative effects resulting from the use of these networks.

The validity and reliability of the instrument are (0,89) and (0.926), respectively.

It has been distributed to a sample chosen randomly consisting of (180) students (males and females) who use Social Networks.

The study has come up with some results the important of which are: - The religious motives score the highest rank of responses.

- Other motives (cognitive, social, political and promotional) score lower responses.

- The results of the study show that using social networks has positive as well as negative effects.
