The Algerian legislature has adopted a national strategy to combat the crime of trafficking in persons by devising a set of national mechanisms to fight and suppress this transnational organized crime.

This is reflected in the institutionalization of legislative mechanisms, including the ratification of international conventions on this crime, the criminalization of this phenomenon under the Penal Code, as well as the creation of a series of judicial proceedings for this crime in the Code of Criminal Procedure as a transnational organized crime.

The National Committee for the Prevention and Control of Trafficking in Persons, under the provisions of Presidential Decree No.

2016-249, acts as an advisory authority to national authorities and bodies and develops a national plan of action against trafficking in persons and protection of victims.
