The purpose of this study is to discover the rules that govern the structure of the narrative text in al-Qaws wa-al-farāshah (The Bow and the Butterfly), a novel by the Moroccan writer Muhammad Al-Ash'ari.

The study is based on the assumption that each creative text carries within it the rules governing its construction, which is the essence of the philosophy of experimentation in literature.

The study reveals that in this novel, the writer departs from the traditional form of the novel of generations and employs the flashback technique in a new way, starting the story at the end and making all the events an explanation of what happened at the end.

Thus, the writer was able to reveal the flaws in the social, political and economic structure of the Moroccan society, while at the same time holding the society responsible for the fate of its members, because, as given in the novel, people are victims of poverty, ignorance, injustice and oppression
