الملخص EN

The purpose of this paper first aims at exploring, through some symbolic signs, different beliefs spread in local and foreign eastern and western societies during the Roman era.

Second, it attempts to disambiguate the meaning of these signs, which were related to the social, political and cultural life of those times.

As far as the methodology is concerned, we applied a descriptive analytical approach to the corpus under study The data were collected from the Numidian, Punic and Roman funeraries and votives monuments, found in the ancient city Calama ( Guelma).

The results of this investigation showed that the religious symbols help us to understand some hidden beliefs of the cultural life in Calama.

More over it is possible to affirm that not only the Numedian cultural life was widely influenced by the Phoenician, Egyptian and Roman civilizations but it impacted other cultures too.

This was particularly visible through symbols referring to fertility, and water which were at the core of social and political empowerment.
