In February 2019, Israel sent its first space probe in a mission to land on the moon from Cape Canaveral Base, Florida, US.

Israel had high hopes that it would be the fourth country at succeed in landing a spacecraft on the moon.

However, Beresheet Spacecraft, which arrived on the moon in April 2019, crashed after facing several technical difficulties during the last phase of landing.

Despite this, Israel has announced preparations for Beresheet 2, in order to complete the mission.

Before Israeli aspirations reached these heights, the Jewish state established an independent aerospace program combining industrial capabilities and domestic technologies.

This contributed to Israel becoming one of very few countries with this type of program.

In 1988, it succeeded in launching the first industrial satellite in the Ofeq series, via the Shavit Lift Launch Vehicle, and became a member of the international space community.

Israel says its efforts to possess a space program are an attempt to achieve independence from the US in intelligence missions, which often depend on satellites and space technology.

Therefore, the Israeli space strategy was built on several foundations, including dependence on domestic capabilities and the creation of an independent space system to achieve its goals without dependence on other powers.

The Israeli space program has witnessed many developments in recent decades to enhance its original strategic vision, both in civil and military aspects, particularly in light of regional and international developments in the field.
