The aim of this paper is to estimate the long run equilibrium real effective exchange rate for Algeria economy by employing NATREX model for a small economy developed by Lim and Stein (1997), and assesses the degree of misalignment in Algeria.

For the period of 1980- 2017, the cointegration method of Johansen is used to establish the long run relationship between the following fundamental variables: real exchange rate, interest rate, terms of trade, saving rate and productivity.

The obtained results exhibit that there is a long run conintegrated relationship between real effective exchange rate and NATREX equation variables.

The results also reveal that the actual real effective exchange rate has deviated from the equilibrium real effective rate with various degrees during the estimation period

الملخص FRE

L'objectif de cet article est d'estimer le taux de change effectif réel d'équilibre à long terme pour l'économie algérienne en utilisant le modèle NATREX pour une petite économie développé par Lim et Stein (1997), et d'évaluer le degré de mésalignement en Algérie.

Pour la période 1980-2017, la méthode de cointégration de Johansen est utilisée pour établir la relation à long terme entre les variables fondamentales suivantes: taux de change effectif réel, taux d'intérêt, termes de l'échange, taux d'épargne et la productivité.

Les résultats obtenus montrent qu'il existe une relation à long terme de cointégration entre le taux de change effectif réel et les variables de l'équation NATREX.

Les résultats révèlent aussi que le taux de change effectif réel s'est écarté du taux
