The writing of the French-Algerian author Leila Sebbar has a particular interest towards art Orientalist painting’s Art.

Her work confronts the Orientalist masterpieces’s past leaders including an emblematic character throughout its trilogy: Sherazade, a teenager of North African origin living in a suburb of Paris.

Throughout Art, this protagonist will discover her own story that she ignores, while keeping herself away from the orientalist discourse that she will try to demystify.

Across this article, we will study the scriptural and discursive strategies that Leila Sebbar deploys on the one hand, deconstructing the Oriental women’s vision by Eastern Orientalists who are missing the Orient.

And on the other hand, reconstructing from this deconstruction “the authentic image” of this woman hackneyed by the male gaze.
