Pome-fruits (apple, pear, and quince) are important fruit crops in Egypt.

A comparative survey of the insect pests infesting pome-fruit trees was carried out during two successive years from January 1994 until Decamber 1995, and the dominant species were determined.

The pests attacking pome-fruit trees in Egypt included 46 insects belonging to 21 families and 5 orders on apple, 35 insects belonging to 18 families and 4 orders on pear, and 22 insects belonging to 14 families and 4 orders on quince.

Survey of the insect pests of pome-fruit trees in Egypt revealed certain important observations.

Cicadella viridis L.

( Hemiptera: Cicadellidae ) is being recorded for the first time in Egypt on apple, pear and quince trees.

Infestation with cotton aphid Aphis gossypii Glover is increasing in apple and pear orchards during spring.

The apple wooly aphid Eriosoma lanigerum Hausman.

is also increasing on apple trees during spring.

The fig scale Russellaspis pustulans Cok.

is a serious pest in apple and pear orchards especially at the newly reclaimed desert lands.

The leaf miner Lyonetia clerkella L.

is becoming an important pest on apple trees.
