Four broad bean cultivars Reyba, Syrian local medium, Syrian local large and Aquadulce were evaluated for susceptibility to infestation with the black bean aphid A.

fabae.

None of these cultivars was resistant to aphids.

However, the cultivar Aquadulce was the least susceptible, possibly due to its low nitrogen and protein content in plant leaves and stems.

Cultivars Reyba, Syrian local medium and Syrian local large were susceptible to the infestation due to their high nitrogen and protein contents.

A positive correlation between longevity and female fecundity was obtained.

Also a strong positive correlation between female weight gained and number of embryos was recorded.

Aphids produced 70-80% of their off-spring during the first ten days of adult life.

The maximum off-spring was produced between the 2nd and 4th days.
