The purpose / objective of the study is to determine the nature of the impact of the credit shock in banking performance by applying to the Iraqi commercial bank Sumer.

Methodology / Design: The researcher applied the current study on a commercial bank for the period (2004-2016).

The statistical aspect of the study was used in the program Minitab v.

18 as well as the use of spss v.25.

The importance of the study The importance of the study is that it is applied in an important economic sector, namely, the banking sector, which is the artery of the vibrant economy because it has an effective role in financial intermediation, mobilizing savings and granting credit to various sectors and organizations.

Mechanisms, and new methods that enable it to face the intense competition within this sector and achieve high performance.

Theoretical results / A knowledge gap about the nature of the relationship between the variables of the current study, the independent variable credit shock, and the dependent variable banking performance.

Results / The study reached a set of practical results, there is a significant correlation between the credit shock and banking performance.

The effects of the scientific / can be used from the findings of the study, as attention to credit shock and study causes can protect the bank from falling into financial crises and problems, and leads to the improvement of services provided to customers, and thus improve the traditional and modern performance measures, As a result of the achievement of high banking performance, which is to achieve the banks goals and objectives in the long term.

Originality / Value: The study came to fill a knowledge gap, which was characterized by the scarcity of local and Arab studies that dealt with the effect, among the study variables in one hypothesis model, and the importance of this relationship in achieving excellence and excellence for the sample study banks.
