It did not only witnessed the discovery of oil but also the speedy development of its industry going side by side with the emergence of the modem Saudi state as a principal played in the world political and economic arena in the twentieth century A.D.

This work is originally a Ph.D.

dissertation submitted to the History Department at King Saud University, ar-Riyadh.

It studies the mutual relations from a historical and economic perspective but docs not neglect the legal aspects of the relations.

It studies the stages of the gradual development of these relations that led eventually to the complete ownership of the oil sector by the kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and from this aspect alone it is a pure historical study.
