As an emerging power, the United States, after its independence, tried to open up new markets in many countries, regardless of proximity or distance, because the US economy was in dire need of recovery and sense of strength after exiting the cloak of English occupation.

Then, was remarkable, so she felt that it was necessary to stand on her feet away from sticking to the economic strength of her friendly friend England, and had what she wanted when she was able to hold several commercial diplomatic agreements, for this purpose, and to get rid of the pirates of the barbarians from the North Which was a severe headache at the top of the aspirations and dreams of the American side in the Mediterranean - where the American ships could not get close to this sea, only after a series of agreements with officials in these countries; to avoid the tribute imposed from these pirates to cross ships, Which the United States regarded as a major insult to it.

Due to these agreements, the United States managed to gain access to the Ottoman Empire in its territories - especially the Ottoman port of Smyrna - Izmir - which witnessed a strong commercial movement of the American ships it had anchored in.
