the American scholar Suzanne Stetkevych on pre-Islamic poetry, The first deals with what she calls the classical poem, represented by the two Muʻallaqs of and Imru' al-Qais ibn Hajr, while the second is addressed to the ṣuʿlūk poem, as seen in selected poetic texts composed by Taʾabbaṭa Sharran who represent s this group of poets.

Stetkevych applies the ritual theory, rite of passage, to reveal the parallels between the three stages of the rite of passage and the three components of the Qasida, concluding that there are some differences between the ṣuʿlūk poetry and the poetry of tribal poets.
