للزيتون أهمية كبيرة في الحضارات القديمة فقد لازم الأنسان منذ فجر التاريخ فكان يستخدم في الأكل و العلاج و الإضاءة وغيره وقد اختلف العلماء في تحديد الموطن الأصلي لهذه الشجرة فمنهم من قال بأنه فلسطين و بلاد الشام و منهم من قال أنه اليونان و منهم من ذكر بأنه جاء من قبرص و منطقة بحر إيجة أما الزيتون في مصر القديمة فلم ترصده دراسة متخصصة لذا سيرتكز هذا البحث علي أربعة محاور المحور الأول و هو الموطن الأصلي لشجرة الزيتون و إذا افترضنا أنها زرعت بمصر القديمة فمتي و من أين وصلت إلي مصر و المحور الثاني و هو مسميات الزيتون في اللغة المصرية القديمة و اختلاف العلماء حول عدة مسميات قد يكون المقصود بها زيت الزيتون تارة أو زيت السمسم أو المورينجا تارة أخري أما المحور الثالث فهو الأدلة الأثرية التي تبين وجود الزيتون و زيته في مصر منذ الدولة الحديثة علي أقل تقدير كنوي الزيتون و أوراقه أو جرار الزيت التي تخزن فيه أما المحور الرابع و الأخير فهو الأدلة الفنية المصورة للزيتون في مصر القديمة.

Olive has a great importance in ancient civilizations, it has been necessary for human since prehistory.
It was used for eating, treatment, lighting.

Scientists have differed in determining the original land of olive, some of whom suggested Palestine and Levant, others suggested Greece and some stated from Cyprus and the Aegean region.
Olives in ancient Egypt have not been monitored by a specialized study, so this research will be based on four interlocutors, the first one: the original home of the olive tree, and if we assume that it was planted in ancient Egypt, then, when and where? The second interlocutor: the names of olive oil in ancient Egyptian language and explanations of several names.
May be intended olive oil, sesame oil or Moringa sometimes.
The third interlocutor is the archaeological traces that confirms the existence olives and oil in Egypt since the new kingdom at least like olive stones and leaves.
The fourth interlocutor: the artistic depiction of olives in ancient Egypt.
