Abstract EN

The current research attempts to determine the relationship between cognitive load and problem solving among Algerian middle school students, especially students of the fourth year.

To answer the study question, we chose to use the cognitive load scale of Nour Fadel (2014) and the Problems solving scale of Nazih Hamdi 1977.

Both instruments’ psychometrics properties were adapted to the Algerian context.

These tools were administered to a sample of 105 learners enrolled in two middle schools in Ain Defla region (fadila saadan school and 8th may school).

Analyses of data revealed that: a) there is an inverse relationship between cognitive load and problem solving,and b) the pupils manifested a statistically significant cognitive load
