Abstract EN

Writing is a complex process of language communication.

Thus, teaching writing is a tough task for most teachers.

This paper aims at discussing the cultural impacts on academic written expression in the perspectives of both students and teachers.

The case study includes 60 third year students at the English department-Batna 02 university.

In this descriptive study, a mixture of research instruments was implemented; a students' questionnaire and an academic written expression task; in addition, a structured interview was carried out with 06 teachers.

Data were analyzed and results were displayed.

The results showed that L1 transfer, religious conformity, cultural resistance to self expression, and the learning background embedded in the students' native culture are the major impacts of culture on the students while writing.
