Abstract EN

This study attempted to highlight the smart phone services in libraries and information institutions and show their role to give a new face to their manners in offering their services.

we wanted to answer the following question: did the use of the smartphones technology permit the offer of electronic services that coped with the developments occurring in the libraries’ environment? the study defined smart phones and underlined their characteristics and positive points.

it also dealt with the most important electronic services smart phones could offer.

we mentioned the major challenges and obstacles that prevented or limited the exploitation of this technology by libraries and institutions of information.

we adopted a theoretical approach related to the exploitation of documentation.

the study helped us to obtain significant results showing the importance of introducing and using smart phone technology as an essential service among the other modern library electronic services that cope with the users’ expectations.
