يعد أبو العباس الملقب بالمبرد من أبرز أئمة البصرة في القرن الثالث الهجري، و يتجلى ذلك في كثرة مؤلفاته في علوم العربية فضلا عن إلمامه بالأخبار و الأنساب.
وقد حظي بمكانة علمية بين العلماء إذ أثنوا عليه، و أشادوا بفضله وقد توجهت عناية كثير من الباحثين و الدارسين الى جهوده النحوية و اللغوية على حين أن للمبرد آراء بلاغية و نقدية مبثوثة في كتبه لم تأخذ حظها الكافي من عنايتهم و اهتمامهم و سنركز على بيان تلك الآراء و تحليلها وفق المنهج الوصفي التحليلي.
